I like to think that my ipod knows what I want to hear at all times, so I let it shuffle through my (currently) 12,178 songs, skipping tracks here and there, but for the most part it KNOWS what I want to hear. What does this have to do with engagement pictures you might ask…well, I’ll tell you.
As I was driving home from Ashley & Taylor’s engagement session Tuesday night, ipod on random of course, “Sorry Signs on Cash Machines” by Mason Jennings came on. It’s such a beautiful song, but one part in particular grabbed me:
I know true love don’t love like anybody else
I know your heart don’t beat like anybody else
And all these burning battlefields are now behind us
Life has brought us here together to remind us
That love will rise above it all and just keep growing
Life keeps flowing, and every moment starts right here with us
Those words tie in to everything I learned about Ashley & Taylor during our shoot. Taylor just got back from China, where he has spent the last year away from Ashley. They learned that being away from each other was very difficult, but now that he’s home, and they can hold each other tight again, everything is ok. They are together, madly in love, and ready to keep holding on for the rest of their lives. And it’s so beautiful

They love to play games together. This particular game is called “The Settlers of Catan“. And, apparently, Taylor is a sore winner…
I have a sweet engagement session to share this evening (late), but for now, enjoy this shot of Maxaroni
This was a special session for us, because Nina is the third child of our FIRST portrait session ever. That’s right, over 4 years ago, we took pictures of Emma, who’s almost 5 now. Crazy how time flies! Either way, you’ll see Emma, and little bro, Ian, later. This post is just for tiny Nina, 6 weeks old at the time. And she is soooo precious!
Every month, Drew and I spend countless hours trying to figure out where we should go for our random shoot. Well, not for the month of June. I have visited a small town we’ve yet to photograph, and that town goes by the name of Tonganoxie. Tonganoxie is really quite an interesting place. In fact, UPS only delivers there on Mondays (I kid). It was totally worth the trip when we stumbled across this really sweet farm
We decided to leave the awesome farm, and head into town. After these next 2 images, I got yelled at by a butcher with some REALLY big knives. I walked away from that one complete with all my limbs!
Basically, Tonganoxie is kind of creepy. They do have good BBQ (Daniel’s BBQ), and my awesome friends, Kelley & Sam live there (Kris, if you still live in Tongaxoxie, you’re cool too, as is any/all of Kelley’s friends who might/might not live there)
Note: Thanks, Kelley for having such a cool farm to take pictures of. And, Sam, your eagle statue is cool, I was just jk’in ya. But, really, the rest of Tonganoxie is a little weird (no offense).
Paige is 1. No way. Not already. This is our 5th session with Paige already? Anyway, we showed up to see a full head of curly hair (so cute) and those same bright blue eyes from the first session a year ago. Ok, enough writing, bring on the cuteness which started in a park and ended in a birthday cake all over a baby in a blue tutu
