Fun with Corin: 6 Months

We shot their wedding. We captured Corin as a newborn. Now check out the cuteness that is Corin at 7 months! I can tell from first hand knowledge that he’s a well loved baby. His smile is contagious. He wants to explore the world and his parents encourage it. Families like this are the blessings that Jenny & I get to experience as photographers. To be able to be involved in so many wonderful moments of a families journey through life, and STOP TIME for them, just for a split second. Wow to that!

The Solars love this family. We’ve been taking pictures for them since their oldest was 3 months old. It’s so wonderful to see a family that truly enjoys time together. Just getting dirty, snuggling, jumping, making lots of messes. You know, the things that a mom has to deal with when she has 3 boys in her life. In fact, her family blog is SUPER funny, you should check it out just for the name alone, 3 Stinky Boys and Me.

Now back to the pictures. Sessions like this are so much fun for Jenny and I. It’s just pictures of a family being a real family and doing the things they love to do together. The little things that you WISH you had a photographer around to capture, not just those “let’s all sit close and smile pictures,” those have their place, but pictures that are FUN, REAL, and GENUINE. Pictures that this family will look back on 15-20 years down the road and remember all the wonderful things they did with their boys. Pictures that MATTER.

Note: I can’t lie, there is a little direction from us during the session, but we get the ball rolling and document all the wonderful moments that ensue.

Twins: Hugo & Lucia

We knew way back in May that we were going to have some beautiful newborn twins to take pictures of when we shot S & C’s maternity session. And, boy, were they well worth the wait! They are just so dang cute! Little Hugo & Little Lucia were both very well behaved for our shoot (I think they knew that their moms wanted some good pictures), that or they just loved the camera. Either way, you can’t help but notice how happy the new parents are!

The Ho Family

Before I even start to write about the Ho family I want to offer a bit of a warning. There are a LOT of pictures in this post. Hey, before you make any snide remarks, they had a 10 day old baby and 4 year old twins with TONS of energy! You’ve now been warned.

If you’re in the Kansas City wedding industry, you might recognize Kim. She is an awesome Kansas City wedding planner and owner of You’re Invited. Add to that list a great mom. Just seeing the way their family played, laughed, and just enjoyed each others company made me smile. I know baby is going to be well loved from all members of the family.

If you have kids, and those kids are mobile, then you’re all too familiar with the old jump on the back game. Imagine how much fun it is for kids to just keep jumping on their parents over and over and over. Tomorrow, take some time out and jump with your kids, they’ll appreciate it.

Side note: How awesome does that canvas look on their wall up in the right corner there? It’s from a family session we shot a year and a half ago. My how time flies!

AJ Turns 1!

Yay for kids portraits! Both Jenny & I sure love taking pictures of cute kiddos, and AJ fits the bill. It’s hard to believe that he’s 1 already! Check out his newborn pictures (after you check out these pictures of course).

If you follow along with our personal family blog at all, you’ll notice that a close-knit family is super important to us. Really, what else matters in life? It sure as heck ain’t where Lebron James decides to play basketball (but I’m getting off topic here). Our families matter. Our children matter. Our parents matter. Our spouses matter. The ones who’ll be with us until the very end matter. That’s why when Chris wanted to involve his father in some pictures, of course we said yes. 50 years from now, AJ & Chris will have these pictures to prove that he was LOVED by his grandpa, and that’s what MATTERS. Of course, he’ll have some super fun ones of him smashing a birthday cake (and hopefully mom will be quick to remind AJ about his dad going crazy over the dirty cake, it was pretty funny) to pieces (side note: why don’t we let our kids smash birthday cakes every year? New Solar family tradition, cake smashing), and he’ll see his mom and dad with huge grins on their faces because they LOVE being parents THAT much. And that makes ME happy. Enjoy!

Peter: The 1 Year Portraits

Everyone remembers Peter. He’s adorable, always smiling, always stylin’, and always having a blast with his wonderful family. And, if you don’t remember Peter, here are his newborn portraits, and for good measure, his 6 month portraits. Peter can rock any style, and it shows in these images. Check out the sweet old-school NBA headband. They really don’t get much cuter that’s for sure. He also shows a bit of attitude by tearing into his very own robot cake. Peter and fam, it’s been a pleasure watching you all grow as a family over the past year, the love you all share, the joy you bring to each other’s lives. We can’t wait to see you all again! And a public thank you for the home brewed bottle of Peter’s Pale Ale and chocolates, yum!

The Gustin Family…all silly stringed out

The Crawford family

After we finished our Route 66 Road trip, we stayed in sunny Southern California for a few days. It’s always a great time hanging with my childhood friends. While we were playing on the beach one day, Brad (we’ve been friends since I was 4) and his wonderful family came down to play, and I took some pictures. While it was a little chilly, and a WHOLE lot windy, we had fun anyway.

The Maxey Family

Another session I shot right before we left for our Route 66 trip was the Maxey family. Now, it’s not too often that I get nervous before a session, but when I shoot a session for another photographer, I feel just a slight dose of butterflies. Luckily, Jake came ready to have a good time so it made those butterflies go away pretty fast. He’s just got that little kid innocence about him, and oh such a wonderful laugh. Sarah has also been waiting super patiently to see some images from this session (sorry, Sarah). I hope the wait was worth it!
