Meet Banana Abby…

Banana Abby our new Kansas City dog photography company, not Banana Abby our dog, although, our new dog studio is named after our dog. This post is an exciting one for me. I had this vision earlier this year that my dog photography needed a place all to itself. We contacted our favorite graphic designer, Michelle Cormack with A Girl Named Fred, and got to work. Today, is the day I finally launch Banana Abby out into the world.

So, what does that mean for dogs at Solar Photographers? Nothing much, except that all my future Wayside Waifs posts will be on Banana Abby. And, also, in keeping with the Solar Photographers giving back model, Wayside Waifs gets 10% of all proceeds from any Banana Abby session (this includes all products purchased) any time, year round, until the end of time. I really love that place. The people are great, and the animals are well taken care of.

The only thing dog related you’ll be hearing from me anymore on here is an occasional link to some Wayside pictures, because, dang it, the more people see those cute faces, the more cute animals get adopted. Thanks for taking the time to read everyone, and thanks for helping make my life so wonderful! I really can’t imagine doing anything else with my life than capturing meaningful pictures for so many wonderful people.

Apparently I picked a great day to volunteer at Wayside. Here are a few pictures taken after an emergency C-section resulted in 12 Boxer puppies. I don’t have any other details besides that. Oh, and that the boxer puppies are EXTREMELY cute

I sure do love all the animals I get to photograph at Wayside Waifs. I know that taking pictures for the shelter once every two weeks is just a small part that I play in getting these dogs good homes, and I wish I could do more. So, maybe you can help me out and spread these images anywhere you can in hopes someone sees a puppy and instantly falls in love. Thanks in advance for your help!

Expecting (Twins!): S & C

It’s a rare occasion (and I don’t know why) that we get to shoot maternity sessions. And this one was extra special for me. S + C invited me into their home, let me play with their pets (2 pugs and 2 kitties), offered me an awesome spaghetti dinner, and most importantly, showed me the Love that they share for each other. From the few hours I’ve spent getting to know them, I know that they are going to be wonderful parents, and they are going to have their hands full with twins! I can’t wait to meet the two babies in a couple of months.

We approached this session as if I was documenting the things they do together (with a few portraits thrown in). I LOVE sessions like this. S & C Love to snuggle in bed at night, watching tv, with all their pets (although 1 kittie was afraid of me). They Love to cook, sit on their front porch chatting over ice cream, and of course take their dogs for walks around the neighborhood. So, that’s exactly what we did. I know S is eagerly awaiting a preview so I’ll shut my trap and get this posted.

Engaged: Amy & Andrew

Oftentimes I struggle with what I’m going to say about each couple that I have the opportunity to take pictures for. Every single person in this world is beautiful. Every single person deserves the opportunity to spend their life with the one they Love. One of my goals is to take people to a place where they can be themselves and share their Love. A place where they are comfortable, relaxed and open to any and all possibilities. We get to have a TON of fun, too. Which in turn makes it hard for me to write about these experiences. I am a photographer, not a writer. Every couple I photograph is clearly in Love. I hope that the images I capture show that every single couple has their own unique Love Language.

Here’s Amy & Andrew’s Love Language. We started the session where they met, at Maloney’s Sports Bar in Overland Park, KS. We then headed to Shawnee Mission Park where Amy & Andrew play disc golf quite often. They chose to bring along their wonderful Great Dane | Black Lab mix puppy, Kona. They also brought their smiles, their laughter and their Love for one another.

Oliver: The Mini-Session

Meet Oliver. He’s a lab golden retriever puppy. He also didn’t know that Sunday was going to be his first photo shoot, and neither did his mommy (she wasn’t prepared). So, you’ll be seeing more of Oliver in the near future, next time with his whole family. Until then, here are a few shots I snagged in our 15 minute mini-session.

It’s that time again. Time for another round of cute, little doggies looking for awesome people to come Love on them and give them a forever home. In fact, I took pictures of over 70 dogs and cats yesterday, and that’s not even close to all of the animals they have available. The weather is finally nice around here. Banana needed a break this afternoon from the chaos that was 8 kids (all 5 and under) running around our house, so we headed out back for a quick portrait session. I don’t know about you, but I think she’s the cutest little basset hound I’ve ever seen.
